University of Kentucky Police Department Selects SOMA Global to Help Protect Over 30,000 Students Throughout their Campus
TAMPA, FL – 11/15/2018 – SOMA Global has entered into an agreement with the University of Kentucky to implement their “Public Safety as a Service” Platform to help protect the students and campus.
The SOMA Platform features an advanced CLERY Reporting module to help the University Police Department comply with the Department of Education reporting standards. The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence, and publicly outline the policies and procedures they have put into place to improve campus safety. Clery Act fines were originally $25,000 per violation but have recently increased to over $53,000, so efficiency and accuracy is important.
“SOMA has always worked with its agency partners to innovate platform features,” said Peter Quintas, Founder and CEO of SOMA Global. “Together with the University of Kentucky, the SOMA Platform is expanding to streamline CLERY Reporting and Compliance.”
Using the SOMA Platform, the University of Kentucky will benefit from an integrated CLERY Reporting experience, including:
- Streamlining collection of CLERY incidents for reporting from criminal incident reports, campus security authorities (CSA) and other integrated sources;
- End-to-end curation of CLERY incidents for reporting, with incident validation and reconciliation for submission;
- Automated crime log publishing to the university website; and
- Integrated “timely notification” initiation and distribution.
“CLERY Act compliance is a top priority for UK – providing timely, accurate reporting from a single location ensures we can keep our community informed and exceed the expectations of Federal guidelines”, asserted Chief Joe Monroe, University of Kentucky Police Department. “SOMA Global is a forward-thinking solutions provider that leverages the latest technology to maximize our policing efficiency and effectiveness. This ground breaking partnership in advancing the ability for campus law enforcement to report accurately will make SOMA’s product a necessity in higher education environments.”
The University of Kentucky is planning a “go-live” in early 2019 on the SOMA Platform. The deployment includes SOMA Dispatch, SOMA Records (including the CLERY modules), SOMA Mobile and SOMA Hub for integrated distributed search.
